Julie A. Jacobs, Associate Attorney

Julie A. JacobsDr. Jacobs is a licensed psychologist and attorney who practices in the area of mental health provider law. Prior to attending law school, Dr. Jacobs practiced for 12 years as a clinical psychologist in a variety of settings, including private practice, college counseling centers, and the United States Air Force. Several years ago, she decided to change the path of her career and focus on helping mental health providers understand the interaction between law and mental health practice. This decision brought her to Boulder, where she obtained her J.D. at the University of Colorado Law School in 2014.
Dr. Jacobs uses her own experiences as the basis for understanding the needs of her clients, particularly in the area of mental health provider law. Her focus is on optimizing the work of mental health providers by addressing issues of risk management, ethical decision-making, and licensure defense. She is familiar with the Colorado Mental Health Practice Act and the ethics codes of the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Psychological Association and is the chair of the Legislative Committee for CPA, ensuring that she is familiar with the legislative and regulatory climate for mental health in Colorado. Dr. Jacobs is passionate about “helping the helpers” and bridging the gap between mental health practice and the law. As a provider herself for over a decade, she brings a unique perspective to the practice of mental health law.
